Apple Watch ships 4.2 million units to lead wearables market
Apple’s Watch may be expensive and a widely reported dud, but here’s more proof that it is fast-becoming the best-selling smartwatch ever.
Analysis from research firm Canalys has claimed that Apple has shipped 4.2 million units of the Apple Watch, despite the device’s high retail price, and is now leading the wearables market.
Apple, ditching its usual tradition, has refrained from revealing any hard numbers for watch sales.
“We find it a bit unusual that Apple has not provided an update on sales as typically, Apple provides detail on units shipped for large and successful product launches”, Deutsche Bank wrote in an investor note earlier this month obtained by Mashable.
The Apple Watch is the most sophisticated smart watch to date, and it has proved popular with Apple fans worldwide.
Even with those educated guesses in the open, nobody knows for sure just how many Apple Watches were sold.
The Apple Watch, with a rectangular touch-screen face, includes sensors to detect pulse rates and other health-related features and must be paired with an iPhone to work properly. V3’s review of the mid-range Apple Watch found the device expensive but well designed and strong on performance.
The report came as Apple readied its quarterly earnings report for today’s release.
