Ireland makes Google’s story of 2015
Search engine Google has revealed exactly what the French searched for the most during 2015, revealing everything from their thirst for breaking news, to their love of reality TV.
The sordid tale of former US professional basketball player Lamar Odom topped Google’s most searched list for 2015, according to data released by the Internet search giant. Other notable trending people were Bobbi Kristina Brown (No. 2), Caitlyn Jenner (No. 3), Charlie Sheen (No. 5) and Donald Trump (No. 9).
With regards to more serious news with real life consequences, the top ten also saw major inclusions from two high profile terrorism incidents in Paris, with Charlie Hebdo and Paris itself appearing as the second and fifth most searched terms respectively.
Of these, the Paris attacks loom largest, with more than 897 million people having searched for information about the attacks since they took place in November.
Now that the year is about to end, Google has comprised the most popular searches of 2015. Hundreds of top-10 lists from 72 countries were counted, including the hottest searches from various states and cities.
Sure, that damn blue-or-gold dress racked up 73 million searches way back in February, but the world redeemed itself in the months that followed.
In Ireland our most searched news story was the Rugby World Cup, followed by the case of Karen Buckley – the young Irish nurse who was murdered in Scotland. Jenner was previously married to Kris Jenner, mother of television personality Kim Kardashian.
As 2015 comes to a close, Google has put together its annual “Year In Search” list, highlighting the people and events that users looked up most often.
Second on the list of most searched people was Filipino actress Andrea Brillantes, 12, who hit the headlines after a private video was leaked.
