Hillary Clinton campaigns with the help of Warren Buffett in Omaha
Hillary Clinton is holding steady atop the Democratic field nationwide and the economy still tops Democratic voter concerns, according to a Monmouth University poll released Wednesday.
Buffett, Omaha’s legendary billionaire investor, said that while the wealthiest have prospered, “millions and millions of Americans have been left behind”.
As for the current state of the nation, Clinton posited, “I don’t think President Barack Obama gets the credit he deserves for digging us out”.
Clinton, the front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination, was introduced at a rally in Omaha by longtime supporter Warren Buffett.
After attending the event at the Sokol Hall, Clinton attended a private fundraising event. A cellphone text number was offered to automatically join the campaign as it builds an army of volunteers. But Buffett said it was “really important” that Nebraskans in the audience reach out to their neighbors and relatives about voting.
Like many Americans, Warren Buffett can write a $2,700 check to support his favorite presidential candidate.
Mrs. Clinton said she was grateful to hear Buffett quoting facts and figures during her introduction because, “the other side is running an evidence-free campaign”.
“Right now, there has been too much that has led to the wealthy getting wealthier at the expense of hardworking families”, Clinton said.
Though she did not mention the Republican debate last night, Clinton did not hesitate to hit GOP candidates on both gun control and anti-Muslim rhetoric. She said the government shouldn’t outsource that responsibility.
Medicare should be able to negotiate with drug companies for lower prices, Clinton said. Bernard Sanders, also have yet to fully lay out the tax plans that would pay for their expansive liberal agendas.
“I support her”, he told CNN in April.
On the hot-button issue of gun safety, Clinton proposed a system of comprehensive background checks for purchasers and legislation to close loopholes that now exist at gun shows and for some online purchases.
On terrorism she said all those on no fly lists should be prevented from acquiring guns in America.
During her speech, while she gave no details, Clinton said that her overall tax proposals will “increase taxes on the wealthy to ensure they pay their fair share while cutting taxes for the middle class”.
