I did dream of being a cricketer: Google CEO Sundar Pichai
In the past few years, we have seen so many Indian desert names being suggested to Google such as Kaju Katli, Ladoo and Modak/Malpua for the last iteration of Android. Since April 2009, the tech giant has developed Android versions under a confectionery-themed code name and released in alphabetical order. Among other things, Google’s CEO announced plans to equip India’s biggest rail stations with WiFi, a connected bike initiative, further support for users on slow 2G connections, and a major expansion of the Google campus in Hyderabad. In response, he joked that he’d ask his mom for suggestions, then he went on to suggest that Google could hold an online poll for naming suggestions for Android N.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai revealed that the company was considering an online poll for choosing how the next version of Android will be branded, according to NDTV (via XDA-Developers). We think that it is a great idea, inviting the Android community to come up with a possible Android N name. In fact yesterday, when Harsha Bhogle asked him about the game all Indians love, he said, “I did dream of being a cricketer like so many Indians”.
During a Q&A at Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) in Delhi University, Sundar Pichai was questioned about the exclusion of names of Indian candies for Android versions.
During his two-day trip India-born Pichai met President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several other union ministers.
