Rodgers revels in stunning game-winning Hail Mary
While cloaked by cornerback Sam Shields, he leaped to catch Stafford’s 17-yard pass with two hands and squeezed the ball with only his right hand as he planted his right foot and dragged his left on the side of the end zone.
As for Richard Rodgers, he had a great game aside from catching the Hail Mary. “That’s the whole design of it, and there’s a design to where you try to get to and the triangle that you’re trying to form (with teammates) down there”. I can’t believe Richard got it… When he caught it I blacked out. “Limited words. I don’t know what to say”. The Lions shutout the Packers offense in the first half, holding Green Bay to just 78 yards at the break.
With no time on the clock, Rodgers avoided the Lions pass rush and heaved up the game winning touchdown pass to Richard Rodgers.
“When I jumped I expected someone to hit me or grab my arm but it never happened”, said Richard Rodgers. “But live at full speed, the referee is going to see that hand up at the mask and the head turned – he’s going to make that call every time”. In what could only be described as an awe-inspiring turn of events, the Green Bay Packers saw themselves beating the Detroit Lions courtesy of a 61-yard touchdown pass of their prized quarterback.
LUCKY BOUNCE: The end of the fourth quarter wasn’t the only point when fortune smiled on the Packers. So maybe we should give the refs a free pass on this one. Green Bay could of been in some serious trouble, had they lost this game. The play has been dubbed The Miracle In Miami.
But Cooter-or perhaps head coach Jim Caldwell-was content to kill time and give the ball back to last year’s MVP.
Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson caught his 15th career touchdown pass against Green Bay, a record for a Packers opponent, while Detroit kicker Matt Prater added three field goals.
The Lions (4-8) led 20-0 in the third quarter and 23-21 when they punted near midfield with under a minute remaining. The Packers found themselves in a situation where they needed to execute a series of laterals to reach the endzone.
Running back James Starks fumbled at the Lions’ five-yard line, but the ball bounced forward, and wide receiver Randall Cobb pounced on it in the end zone. Jones and Taylor beat the Packers’ offensive linemen and flushed Rodgers out of the pocket.
While you can argue the importance of the plays in question, you can’t argue that the family has a knack for drama, and that their Thanksgiving touch football game will be a classic for generations, as father and son recount their places in football lore.
