Samsung Introduces a 128GB Galaxy Note 5 Winter Edition in Korea
Reports suggest that Samsung will install Android 5.1.1 Lollipop on this device, but users will still be able to make use of the fingerprint scanner that will be mounted on the phone’s home button, just below the display. The move seemed quite surprising given the fact that the company’s Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge flagships announced earlier this year were being offered with the 128GB storage option.
The sad catch is that this new variant will only be sold through local carriers KT and SKT for the equivalent of $850, and there’s no indication Samsung is going to bring these to other markets in the future.
This Korea-based tech giant has introduced the 128GB variant of the Galaxy Note 5 in its homeland. As part the Un-carrier Unwrapped promotion, T-Mobile offering a $100 discount off Samsung’s premium Galaxy devices, including the Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, Edge+ and Note 5. The handset is offered in gold platinum and silver titanium (which, according to Samsung, are two of the most popular Note 5 colors), at the “special price” of 999,900 KRW (about $846). Its internal specs are completely identical, as is its overall design. It is powered by company’s own Exynos 7420 octa-core SoC, Mali-T760 MP8 GPU, 4GB of RAM, and 128GB of inbuilt storage.
Other features of the supposed phone include a 13-megapixel main camera with optical image stabilization and bright f1/9 aperture, while its front snapper is an 8-megapixel one which also supports panoramic pictures. There’s also a 3000mAh non-removable battery. However, the Winter Edition would have to reach consumers beyond South Korea to provide much of a boost to Samsung’s sluggish sales.
