Mohammad Amir Named in National Camp, Vows to Respect Pakistan Colours
“Aamir has already completed his five-year ban imposed on him by the ICC over spot fixing”, Wasim said, adding that he deserves another chance.
Paceman Mohammad Amir promised to respect Pakistan’s green cap and shirt after being named for a national camp on Friday, the first step toward regaining his place in country’s team following a spot-fixing ban.
Calling Amir in the camp indicate revival of left arm pace bowler Muhammad Amir’s career, who played 14 Tests, 15 ODIs and 18 Twenty20 Internationals.
The Pakistan Cricket Board says in a statement that the “main objective of the camp is to improve the overall physical fitness of all players, and to enhance the technical aspect of each player’s game”. Legendary Pakistan fast bowler Imran Khan had described him as “the hottest property in worldwide cricket”.
He returned to action in March after the sanction was reduced by a year.
Amir took initiative following a ray of hope to make come back as national selectors hinted to call the pacer for the national conditioning camp in Lahore at the end of this month in preparation for the next year’s tour to New Zealand.
Although several senior Pakistani players have had reservations about letting back into the dressing room, including Pakistan’s T20 skipper Mohammad Hafeez, who turned down a lucrative offer to play for the Vikings as he didn’t want to play with Amir, both PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan and head coach Waqar Younis, have welcomed the prospect of Amir’s return to the national set-up.
“He is busy consulting his lawyers and wanted some time off to discuss with them the legal hitches he might face if selected to play for Pakistan again”, said a source close to Amir, quoted by Press Trust India.
