Manchester United drawn against FC Midtjylland in Europa League last 32
The Europa League is seen as less glamorous than the Champions League but United should always be looking to win every competition they are in.
Lifelong Manchester United fan and Olyroo Awer Mabil will face the triple European champions after his Danish club Midtjylland were drawn against the English giants in the last 32 of the Europa League.
Tottenham Hotspur were handed a testing two-legged tie against Serie A title hopefuls Fiorentina, having crashed out at the hands of the Italians at the same stage in last season’s competition.
Manchester United have had better luck, placed against Danish side Midtjylland, while the German coach of Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp, will have to return to his country to face Augsburg.
Dumped out of the Champions League, Manchester United’s next European match will be a trip to western Denmark.
In February, the two clubs will meet in the last 32 of the Europa League following yesterday’s draw. This game is something special.
Midtjylland’s Finland global midfielder Tim Sparv was one of the first players to react to the draw. Wolfsbug admirably won their group, but they’re just fifth in the Bundesliga at the moment and reached the group stage with the second-lowest Uefa club coefficient remaining.
The draw could’ve been much more harsh to Liverpool: a reunion with Borussia Dortmund for Klopp was a possibility as were four teams that cannoned out of the Champions League.
Nicknamed “The Wolves”, Midtjylland will host United at their 11,800-capacity MCH Arena in Herning on February 18 before the second leg at Old Trafford seven days later.
“Tottenham are a strong team – we know them very well after facing them past year”. Their other result was the result which saw them progress into the next round of the Europa League – a 3-1 victory against Partizan.
They eliminated Southampton, where Sparv was once an academy player alongside Theo Walcott, in qualification for the Europa League and came second in their group, won by Napoli.
