‘I’d love to be back’
“FitzMagic” could be here to stay if Todd Bowles gets his way.
Jets coach Todd Bowles has said publicly he wants Fitzpatrick back. “Obviously, you deal with all of those things after the season”.
“You can see us taking some plays off”, Walker said.
Bowles’ gut feeling about Gailey was reinforced when a mutual friend, Vikings defensive coordinator George Edwards, who had worked under Gailey in Buffalo, offered a glowing assessment.
“I’d love to be back”, he said with a smile. Now in that the Jets are Eight-5 & are one of three clear favorites in a honorable AFC wild-card chase, let us take a look at the takeaways from Sun.’s win.
Watch Jason Cole discuss Fitzpatrick and the Jets in the video above.
“I played golf on Sundays”, he said. “But I make my opinion known, yes”.
New York Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick (14) throws a pass during the first half of an NFL football game against the Tennessee Titans Sunday, Dec. 13, 2015, in East Rutherford, N.J. That’s four away from tying Vinny Testaverde’s franchise record for a season and already a career high for the well-traveled veteran. The Jets rank in the top 10 in points scored and points allowed. They have the second-best red-zone offense in the National Football League (68.2 percent) and the No. 1 red-zone defense (33.3 percent).
Even if the Jets wrap up the year at 11-5 they would lose out to Kansas City based on conference record and drop behind the Steelers based on their record against common opponents.
“One of the best things with Chan and his system and really just the offense in general is that there’s not an ego”, said Fitzpatrick, who has thrown for a career-high 25 touchdowns.
“I think when you have a great team, this is the time you usually click, in November, December and going into the postseason”, cornerback Darrelle Revis said.
“Nobody wants that,” Fitzpatrick joked. We don’t go into the season rooting for a certain team, so I’m not going to end the season rooting for a certain team. “Just keep doing what we’re doing and getting better and take it one game at a time – and try to win out in December”.
“The way described him was exactly what I was looking for”, Bowles said. “It took a lot of work”, the first-year coach said.
“Teammates continue to rave about Fitzpatrick”s pocket poise, intelligence and ability.
Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker are having monstrous seasons with Fitzpatrick throwing to them.
“The Jets” quarterback carousel has produced plenty of disappointing seasons recently.
Even when Bowles proclaimed him the starter after IK Enemkpali broke Geno Smith’s jaw in an embarrassing locker-room fight early in training camp, Fitzpatrick didn’t get ahead of himself.
“He’s very intelligent. He can make you feel at home and he’s a amusing guy”.
“He plays extremely hard every week. He just has that personality that everybody gravitates towards”.
[OPTIONAL TRI]But some things are out of a coach’s control.
“It”s hard with free agency and the draft to keep guys together,” Marshall said.
“I think that we felt like we had maybe gone a little bit too far in some areas and we needed to scale back and get back to what we kind of where we started, sort of back to basics with things”, Gailey told the media today.
