A three-peat! Vonn dominates at Lake Lindsey
“A lot has happened in the last couple of years”, the American superstar said Sunday in a minor understatement.
“I just have to ski clean, ski aggressive, and hope I can stay ahead”, she said.
Vonn was impressed by Shiffrin’s super-G debut.
“I think (course conditions) were a little bit better than I expected”, said Vonn, who’s from Vail, Colorado.
Austria’s Cornelia Huetter took third after finishing second Friday.
American tech star Mikaela Shiffrin could only marvel at Vonn’s display of superiority.
Aksel Lund Svindal of Norway, who swept the men’s downhill and super-G in Lake Louise last weekend, won Friday’s downhill in Beaver Creek, Colo.
The win was Hirscher’s first in super-G on the World Cup tour, in a discipline where he had previously only one podium finish.
“People say it’s the skis”.
“It’s so wonderful”, she said.
“I love the thrill of it. Just because I’m older doesn’t mean I’ve lost any desire to continue to win and to continue to ski fast”. “Not unbeatable but nobody has even ventured into that category yet”.
Canada’s top performer was Larisa Yurkiw.
Valerie Grenier of Mont-Tremblant, Que., was 43rd after crashing the previous day in just her second World Cup downhill.
With Austria’s Anna Fenninger and Slovenia’s Tina Maze not racing this season, the 20-year-old Shiffrin will be one of Vonn’s challengers for a fifth overall crown. “It’s good to do it when you’re young, because you don’t feel like you have any pressure”.
Lindsey Vonn of the United States, skis down the course during a…
Lindsey Vonn of the U.S. skies her way to victory in the women’s World Cup Super-G in Lake Louise, Alta., on Sunday, Dec. 6, 2015. She’s closer to the overall World Cup wins record of 86 held by retired Swede Ingemar Stenmark.
“Mathematically speaking, it’s a possibility”, Vonn acknowledged. First time on that hill ever, and I don’t ever want to leave. I think she’s going to go for it, but I think since it’s her first speed event on the World Cup circuit, she’s going to feel it out, see how it goes.
Lindsey Vonn leads the downhill World Cup with the 200 points from her two wins. “And then you officially have to change the name”.
