Nebraska jobless rate unchanged in November at 2.9 percent
About 294,000 people were unemployed in November in Los Angeles County, which has a workforce of about 5 million.
A separate report from the Philadelphia Federal Reserve showed its gauge of manufacturing activity in the region fell to -5.9 this month from 1.9 in November.
In another positive development, the unemployment rate in the county’s largest city, Los Angeles, fell to 6 percent from 6.3 percent.
“Government added 200 jobs over the month, and has added 6,700 jobs over the year”.
November’s rate of 4.1 percent was more than a full percentage point lower than the same month past year when the ME jobless rate was 5.5 percent.
“I’m pleased to see that the Construction industry continued to see growth in Texas in November”, said TWC Commissioner Representing Labor Ronny Congleton. The Dow futures pointed to a gain of 38 points, or 0.23%, the S&P 500 futures indicated a rise 4 points, or 0.15%, while the Nasdaq 100 futures increased 18 points, or 0.38%. The largest gains were made in trade, transportation and utilities, which added a total of 9,800 jobs.
The sign of underlying economic strength came a day after the USA central bank raised its benchmark overnight interest rate by 25 basis points to between 0.25 per cent and 0.50 per cent, the first increase in almost a decade. At the same time, new claims for Unemployment Insurance were 54,438 in November, compared with 46,203 in October and 60,211 in November of previous year.
The Labor Department said that initial jobless claims, an indicator of the pace of layoffs, fell by 11,000 to 271,000 in the week ending December 12. Employers have been adding a healthy 210,000 jobs a month so far this year.
The county had the third-highest jobless rate among South Carolina’s 46 counties for the month.
The widespread improvement suggests employers in most parts of the country are confident enough to hire more.
The overall statewide unemployment rate stood at 5.7 percent, down from 5.8 percent in October and the nationwide rate stood at 4.8 percent.
According to figures, the countywide civilian labor force numbered 1,031,500, with 64,300 people out of work in November.
