Minnesota Medical Examiner Says Scott Weiland Died Of Toxic Drug Mix
Scott Weiland died from a combination of several drugs and alcohol, according to TMZ.
Following his death, his ex-wife Mary Fosberg-Weiland penned an emotional letter for Rolling Stone, in which she urged Weiland’s fans not to glorify his death.
Weiland was on tour with his band, Scott Weiland & the Wildabouts, when his body was discovered in a bedroom on the back of the tour bus.
Scott Weiland died from a lethal overdose of cocaine, alcohol, and MDA (ecstasy), the Hennepin County Medical Examiner confirms.
His history of cardiovascular disease, asthma and substance dependence were also listed as contributing factors. The memoir included stories of being raped when he was 12 and his relapses, including “a single line of coke” that doomed his future with Velvet Revolver. The debut album, “Contraband”, sold more than 3 million copies and yielded a massive hit, “Slither”, and another Grammy for Weiland. Stone Temple Pilots broke up in 2003, and Weiland went on to front Velvet Revolver, alongside rock luminaries Slash, Matt Sorum and Duff McKagan of Guns N’ Roses and Dave Kushner of Wasted Youth.
Stone Temple Pilots reunited in 2008 and split again in 2013. The group had been scheduled to play a show in Bloomington, Minnesota on December 3rd when Weiland was found unresponsive. He pleaded guilty to felony heroin possession in 1998.
