‘The Force Awakens’ Speeds Past a Record $50 Million Thursday-Night Opening
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” has set a box office record with an estimated $57 million from last night’s shows.
One day down, one record broken. The Force Awakens nearly broke that record in less than one day in release. The previous record holder was the second installment of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which made $91 million on its first day. Deathly Hallows, Part 2 went on to gross $1.341 billion worldwide.
On top of the domestic triumph, Force Awakens has already totted up $72.7 million since it began rolling out internationally on Wednesday with 12 markets, adding 32 more yesterday.
Thursday night took in between $50-55 million in the US for the new Star Wars, a most impressive number no matter which end of the range it falls upon. And how long will it take to (inevitably) take down Jurassic World, the most successful movie of 2015?
With these growing box-office numbers, episode VII of the saga dethrones fellow box office hits such as “The Dark Knight Rises” and “Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2” according to a report by entertainment publication The Wrap. Stay tuned for more details!!!
