Star Wars reunion for friends at Coventry cinema 16 after Phantom Menace
I’m just kidding. It was actually this past Monday, and in New York City, that I traveled to Discovery Times Square to check out the Star Wars and the Power of Costume Exhibition!
By noon, tickets to early shows sold out. The first showings start at 7 p.m.
The film is the first part of the reboot trilogy by JJ Abrams – the mastermind behind Lost and the recent Star Trek movies – and features original Star Wars actors Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill.
Even before the latest film debuted in theaters, the film broke “all known records for advance ticket sales in the US”, raking in more than $50 million, Marketing Week said. As the lights dimmed, the familiar melody of the Star Wars theme boomed from an assortment of speakers in every direction.
The theater is one of 22 theaters playing a marathon for Star Wars fans as they prepare for the release in the next installment of the franchise.
Though fans had not been officially introduced to new characters in the film when the merchandise was unveiled, glimpses of the new characters fueled consumer demand, Toy Industry Association (TIA) CEO Steve Pasierb told the Associated Press.
“I’m really excited and think this is going to be the best film yet”, Caleb Kauffman said. But before you suit up and head out, it’s important to know what to expect: big crowds, extra security, and a dress code. “You got seven more movies coming out”.
For super fan John Morgan the experience is much more than just watching the movies.
“It’s kind of weird to me that they’re doing this all of a sudden and these are plastic”, said America Copeland, holding plastic lightsabers.
