Congress not afraid of BJP’s political vendetta: Sibal
Amidst continued disruptions in Parliament with Congress accusing the Narendra Modi government of resorting to “political vendetta”, Rahul Gandhi asserted that not a single rupee can be taken out from the organisation.
At a strategy meeting on December 9 chaired by Sonia Gandhi, party leaders resolved to escalate the issue and fight it out both legally and politically.
“Filing such cases show that government’s fear that it can not defeat the Congress, and people like Subramanian Swamy have been kept in the BJP for such acts”, Sibal said. While Kharge alleged that government is indulging in vendetta politics, Naidu accused the Congress of threatening judiciary through Parliament.
“I was there from 10.30 to 11.30 a.m. We requested the court that the accused Congress leaders want to appear before it and it could give date and time according to its convenience”, Singhvi said.
Responding to Swamy’s charges, in a Press conference, Congress leader PC Chacko had back in 2012 denied all charges against his high command and had also challenged Subramnian Swamy to take the matter to the court.
The BJP spokesman asked Congress to allow Parliament to function normally and allow passage of important bills. “This is a clear case of vendetta politics”.
“Why should I be scared of anyone?”
Law Minister D.V. Sadanadna Gowda said the conduct of Congress members was “quite undemocratic”.
Rahul, speaking in Cuddalore in Tamil Nadu, said he “absolutely” saw “political vendetta”.
In response, the Congress Party has been blocking the Parliament since, and caught in the protests is the Goods and Services Tax Bill or GST Bill, arguably the biggest economic reform bill in over two decades.
Sonia and her son Rahul Gandhi have been asked to appear in a Delhi Court on December 19 in connection with this case.
Both the Houses of Parliament yesterday witnessed repeated adjournments following a ruckus by the Congress MPs over the National Herald case. “The same questions I am asking the Prime Minister (Modi) or the government, I am going to continue asking them”, Rahul had told reporters. “We all know who is threatening the judiciary”, he added.
Contending that there was “misrepresentation of facts”, he said, “The government is ready for any discussion…There are serious allegations on Congress leaders”.
