Warriors avenge only loss by rallying past Bucks, 121-112
The Golden State Warriors got back on the winning track Wednesday night with a 128-103 blowout of the visiting Phoenix Suns, and Klay Thompson exploded for a season-high 43 points.
“We try to make a statement every night to be honest”, said Thompson, who poured in 27 points in the third quarter and hit eight 3-pointers in the game. “Obviously a team that gave us our one in the loss column, and we felt they could have won with a little more class”.
With his team trailing by 11 points with under eight minutes left, Green completed a 3-point play and scored on an alley-oop layup before tipping a rebound to a teammate and getting the ball back for a transition 3-pointer. “That’s fine. I mean, I have no problem with them celebrating the win”.
Charles Barkley, who got two first-hand looks at those Bulls in the last of his four-season stint with the Phoenix Suns, says it’s a moot point. Right now, as the Warriors improved to 25-1, there’s no one that comes close to what they’ve been doing. The Warriors starters sat the entire fourth, as the second unit got an extended period of garbage time that resembled a competitive pickup game.
The Toronto Raptors downed the Miami Heat 108-94 after DeMar DeRozan scored 30 points and Kyle Lowry added 21, while Andrew Wiggins had 32 points, 10 rebounds and six assists to lift the Minnesota Twins 99-95 over the Sacramento Kings.
The Bucks have lost the first two games of their Western road trip, falling to the Los Angeles Lakers Tuesday and dropping a 103-90 decision to the Los Angeles Clippers Wednesday.
Michael Carter-Williams scored 24 points and Giannis Antetokounmpo added 20 for the Bucks, who have lost five of six but have been Golden State’s toughest opponent to date. Apparently, the Warriors were none too pleased at what they considered unsportsmanlike behavior by Carter-Williams and the Bucks. Curry hit a 3-pointer in the opening minute to extend his streak to 100 straight regular-season games with a 3-pointer.
Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr, recuperating from back surgery and sidelined since the start of the National Basketball Association season, said Thursday he hopes to be back on the bench by early January. Curry also had a pair of 2-pointers, giving him 10 of the Warriors’ 21 points. The defending NBA MVP really stepped up his performance and carried the team through many handfuls of games.
“We just talked; that was it”, Kidd said. Klay Thompson continued his hot streak with 27 points on 8-of-16 shooting.
Draymond Green needed only three quarters to rack up 16 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists for his fourth triple-double of the season and umpteenth time he’s shown the potential to be an All-Star selection this season. The Warriors are 12-0 at home this season.
Carter-Williams had 17 points in the latest defeat and has averaged 17.7 in a three-game stretch, a result of his increased role with backcourt mates Greivis Vasquez and Jerryd Bayless sidelined by ankle injuries.
