Retailers Count on ‘Super Saturday’ Shopping Before Christmas
This is not the first year Kohl’s has stayed open around-the-clock in the run-up to the holidays, but the chain is getting an even earlier jump on the offering this year, which starts on December 17 after launching on December 19 the previous year.
For example, stores like Best Buy, Dick’s Sporting Goods and Sears kicked of their sales on Thanksgiving Day, but were closed for a number of hours overnight prior to opening for Black Friday.
Banking on the shoppers to come personally and pick up stuff from the shops make the retailers wait eagerly for the last dollars during the shopping season before the year ends.
According to the report, Kohl will have their doors open from 7 a.m. coming Thursday and will remain open for the next 170 hours up to 6 p.m. on this year’s Holiday Eve. Then they can earn reward points under Yes2You Rewards after every purchase. Experts view this as an attempt by the department store to keep its head afloat in the tough economic condition facing retailers this holiday season.
In fact, retailers are on their toes during the holiday season, flooding the markets with offers and promotions. About 31 percent will only make purchases if shipping is free, 2 percentage points higher than past year, and more shoppers plan to use in-store and locker pickups for online purchases.
Moreover, given the rebounding US economy, the retail space is brimming with optimism. A gradual recovery in the housing market and manufacturing sector, along with an improving labor market and lower gasoline prices, have raised buyers’ confidence.
As per Slice Intelligence, unlike other major e-commerce competitors, including Kohl’s, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. TGT, and J. C. Penney Company, Inc.
Kohl’s has a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).
