Anonymous Donor Drops $1100 Gold Coin Into Salvation Army Red Kettle
The Salvation Army of Roseville has had at least 30 Red Kettle sites operating in the South Placer County area since late November. Donations can also be made by texting “joy” to 91999, via credit card by calling 1-800-SAL-ARMY, or by sending a check to The Salvation Army at 736 W. Main St., Lexington, KY 40508. The goal is to raise $200,000 and so far, donations have been low. Organizers say that donation will benefit the Lawrence Salvation Army Corps Community Center.

“This year is more challenging to secure necessary available funds to help supply basic needs for our neighbors”, said Bill Goodwill, Genesee County Business Manager. “From the monthly number of families coming through the food pantry to those who need assistance with housing, rent, utilities; we have families coming to us for help that have never had to seek this type of assistance. They all looked around; they’d never seen one before so we had to share it around and let everybody look at it”, Svenson said.
The trend of donating jewelry and other unique valuables took off past year when an anonymous widow donated her wedding and diamond engagement rings in a Red Kettle outside of Boston’s North Station.
“For our programs to continue, we need help financially to make that happen”, says Salvation Army Lieutenant Terri Olson.
The Salvation Army provides job referrals to almost 90,000 Americans each year.
The Salvation Army has also received strong support from volunteers for the Christmas Kettles.
