Star Wars premiere: Carrie Fisher makes Oscars plea
The 59-year-old actress has reprised her iconic role for new blockbuster “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and although she’s used to seeing her likeness as her alter ego emblazoned on various products she never expected the intergalactic rebel fighter to inspire a type of marijuana. Come up with something creative and you could win a prize package.
At a press conference with her co-stars on the day of the film’s United Kingdom release, she said: “I used to watch buses go past with posters on and I’d be like, oh that would be really cool!”
The entire Star Wars cast was totally upstaged by a fella called Gary at the premiere.
The contest rules are here.
Carrie Fisher was shocked when she discovered there is a strain of cannabis named after Princess Leia.
The only disappointment is that Fisher never said “Help me, Ellen DeGeneres: You’re my only hope”.
The duo asked the fan for a donation, but when the woman didn’t have cash on her, they chose to trade for some clothes in the back of her auto!
Speaking at the event in London’s Leicester Square on Wednesday, December 6, she said: “It’s been relaxing, there’s a lot of people, and I have Gary with me”. I don’t think they give films like this as much recognition as they should.
Mark Hamill, who plays Luke Skywalker, said he was overwhelmed.
Before the film’s stars arrived at the event, a group of stormtroopers from the First Order opened the red carpet.
The newest droid in the Star Wars family, BB-8, got a cheer from fans as it rolled down the red carpet.
Actor Warwick Davis, who starred in a few of the earlier Star Wars films and the latest one, could not resist posing for a selfie with BB-8 on the red carpet.
The first lucky driver to stop was in for a real treat, with Ellen telling the fan how extremely hard it was to snag seats for the movie.
The film – which is set for general release on Thursday – has already made United Kingdom box office history, selling more than half a million tickets for its opening week at one cinema chain alone.
