AUS vs IND: Team India announced, Yuvi and Nehra make Comebacks
Yuvraj returns to the national fold after after two years, while Nehra last played an worldwide match in 2011. “Australia tour flawless chance to give them a shot”. However, Suresh Raina is the surprise exclusion from the squad of the T20Is.
Nevertheless, much of the focus will be on T20 games, with India’s chairman of selectors Sandeep Patil saying: “Yuvraj has always been special”. Youngster Gurkeerat Singh has been retained, while Rishi Dhawan has been included for ODIs. “The selectors are happy and captain (Mahendra Singh Dhoni) is happy to have him back”.
As expected back in form all rounder Ravindra Jadeja was selected for ODI as well as T20 squad, while left-handed batsman Suresh Raina was left out of ODI side while retained his place in T20 squad.
“We will need experienced players in the T20 WC”.
Axar Patel, Ishant Sharma, Gurkeerat Singh Mann, Rishi Dhawan and Brainder Balbirsingh Sran have been chosen in the ODI team, while Raina, Harbhajan Singh, Hardik Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ashish Nehra have been named in the T20I squad. Nehra is a consistent performer in T20 format.
Nehra, 36, has not played an global for India since 2011. He will be useful in the team. Patil said the decision to select the final XI will remain with the captain and team management.
Twenty20 is a shortest format, where one has to bowl four overs in a match and a maximum of 12 in a three-match series, but whether Nehra will be able to stop runs against the Australians, who are good at facing fast bowlers, is there to be seen.
The players to be excluded from India’s T20 squad from the recent 2-0 series loss to South Africa are Rayudu, Axar Patel, Mishra, Binny, Aravind and Mohit Sharma. Pandey has played just one ODI for India – against Zimbabwe – and made a promising 86-ball 71.
Revealing the squads, Patil stated that the trip will “offer selectors an opportunity to take a look at other gamers”.
