A panel of experts, convened three days ago by the Congregation for the Causes of the Saints, attributed the miraculous healing to Mother Teresa, Avvenire’s Vatican expert Stefania Falasca reported.
Mother Teresa will be officially declared a saint, the Vatican announced yesterday.
Her canonization occurs after the Catholic Church unanimously approved the “extraordinary healing” of a Brazilian man who in 2008 was at terminal stage because of severe brain issues.
Mother Teresa was born Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu on August 26, 1910, in Skopje, Macedonia.

She died in 1997 and was beatified in 2003, based on the claims of an Indian woman who said praying to Mother Teresa had saved her life.
Mother Teresa, who died in 1997 at the age of 87 and was known as the “saint of the gutters”, is expected to be canonised in early September.

“We will incorporate more number of films since the numbers of documentaries and movies made on her has gone up over the years”, Lucas said, adding talks and seminars by experts on Mother Teresa will be important highlights of the fest.
A second miracle is needed for canonization, which means the person becomes a saint.
A Nobel laureate in 1979, she dedicated her life to looking after the destitute and dying in India.
“Today (Friday) we received an official confirmation from the Vatican about the second miracle being recognised by the Pope… and Mother will be accorded sainthood in 2016”, said Sunita Kumar, spokesperson of Missionaries of Charity, which was founded by Mother Teresa.
“Probably the only surprise there is about this is the fact that it was so sudden after her death, usually its 100 years or so”, Monsignor John Hemann from Clear Lake said.
“We are all absolutely delighted about the news”, said Sister Ita of the Missionaries of Charity headquarters in the center of the city.
She dedicated her life to caring for impoverished and sick people in Kolkata. The Vatican could find no medical reason for the woman’s tumor’s disappearance, and accepted it as a miracle.
