Arvind Kejriwal says CBI has been made to target all opposition parties
AAP workers gathered at Azad Maidan in south Mumbai and held a demonstration denouncing yesterday’s raid, saying the action is akin to “unannounced emergency”.
Punjab BJP Kamal Sharma said the Delhi Chief Minister has “lost” his mental balance and should first get himself treated in a good hospital before making derogatory remarks against PM Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.
Refusing to apologise, Kejriwal also targetted Finance Minister Arun Jaitley claiming that CBI raids on the Delhi Secretariat were aimed to save him and access files in the DDCA graft case. “Isn’t it an attempt to discourage officers who are working with Chief Minister Kejriwal?” he questioned.
The AAP has stepped up its campaign for Jaitley’s resignation three days after a CBI raided the office of Kejriwal’s Principal Secretary Rajendra Kumar.
Searches were conducted yesterday at 14 places in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, including Mr Kumar’s residence and office, after obtaining warrants from a court.
However, Jaitley rubbished the allegations, saying he has had nothing to do with cricket for years. “What is his role in DDCA scam”, Kejriwal said in another tweet.
“CBI kept reading DDCA file in my office”.
According to CBI officials, the raid at Rajendra Kumar’s office continued till late in the evening. I want to tell Modi ji, you scared other people through CBI, but you have no idea what Kejriwal is made up of. Kejriwal’s allegations on Friday were also dismissed by BJP leader Jitendra Singh.
Responding to Kejriwal, Jaitley, in his blog post on Facebook, clarified that he has not been associated with the DDCA since 2013 and that the Delhi CM can’t drag him into a controversy by raking up facts from 2014 and 2015.
The agency sources claimed that it has recovered documents pertaining to bank balances of approximately Rs 28 lakh from Kumar, a 1989-batch IAS officer from AGMUT cadre, who is facing probe for allegedly favouring a private firm in government contracts. Under our constitutional set up, the Centre does not have investigating powers on the chief ministers.
