Congress stalls parliament, accuses Centre of “vendetta” politics
The government needs Congress support to pass key legislations in the Parliament, as part of its reforms agenda. “They are obstructing the progress of the country”, he said, adding: “The government has nothing to do with it. It was a court order”.
Sonia and Rahul Gandhi’s moral outrage, however, seemingly sits at odds with the facts of the case.
Guwahati: Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi today alleged that the National Herald case was “driven by the Prime Minister’s office” and asserted that is a not-for-profit organisation of which “not a paisa could be taken out”. My job is to raise questions and I am not scared of all these.
Naidu said, “Congress is thinking that it is hurting Prime Minister Narendra Modi”.
Singhvi told the court that the Gandhis were willing to appear but the Delhi High Court order was received late. While Sonia tried to draw a parallel between what happened to Indira in 1977 (the Jeep scandal) and what is happening to her now, she said, “I am the daughter-in-law of Indira Gandhi”.
Asked about Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidus charge that Congress was using Parliament to threaten judiciary by disruptions, he said, It is the other way round.
Later, in Chennai, Rahul dared the government to do “whatever they want to do” but he would not back off an inch.
Furious Congress members stormed the wells of both houses of parliament, shouting slogans against the case and alleging a “political vendetta” by Modi, who has moved to weaken the legacy of the Gandhis since dislodging them from power past year.
They were asked to comment on the the Delhi High Court rejecting their pleas for quashing the summons by a Delhi court against them in the National Herald case, initiated by BJP leader Subramanaian Swamy. Funds collected for a political activity were used for a commercial objective. He alleged that AJL had received an interest-free loan of Rs 90.25 crore from the Congress and that the party transferred the debt to YIL for Rs 50 lakh. “Let them do whatever they want to do”, he said.
“There are two sets of law governing political parties- one for the ruling party and the other for the opposition”, he said and added, “We need justice, equal justice”.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lambasted the Congress for disrupting the proceedings in both the Houses of Parliament without any reason.
