Will the Beatles Come to Streaming Music Services Christmas Eve?
Billboard reported that there is conflicting information on the exact date in which Beatles originals will grace the playlists of music streamers, but discussions are strongly hinting at a Dec 24 arrival date.
That said, it would be a huge leap forward, kind of like in 2010 when the Beatles finally came to the iTunes Music Store after lots of hand-wringing and licensing delays.
What’s not clear, however, are the names of the streaming services. When they joined iTunes, they sold 2 million songs in their first week. And although streaming services started seeping into the public conscious nearly ten years ago, the Beatles have so far declined to participate. It is unclear at this point which services the iconic act will let have access to their discography, but Billboard’s sources implied that most would be able to do so – though no services have explicitly commented on the deal yet. The Beatles music was released on CD in 1987, but the band didn’t remaster their work until 22 years later. Representatives from Rhapsody, Spotify, Apple, Tidal, Deezer and Slacker didn’t immediately comment on the status of the looming deal. Billboard notes that consumers are just recently beginning to get their tunes from streaming platforms over digital downloads in terms of revenue for major labels.
