‘The Force Awakens’ Already Beat ‘Fantastic Four’s’ Total Gross
The company said the film already brought in $57 million last night alone in the U.S. and Canada. That number obliterates the USA opening day record of $91 million for 2011’s “Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows: Part 2”.
A winter film could never compete with the opening-weekend box office of a summer smash, the conventional wisdom goes.
While “Star Wars” helped create the summer blockbuster, “The Force Awakens” is debuting in the holiday season of December, where the previous top opening was the $84.6 million debut of 2012’s “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey”. Total US presales are estimated at more than $100 million, while figures from the UK’s opening day are yet to be posted. “It’s great to see that all fans can enjoy the “Star Wars” experience, as our theater partners continue to add new screens and new showtimes every day”, he said.

First lady Michelle Obama hosted a screening for children of families that lost members to war. “We just have a lot of love for the movie, and the whole universe really”, one fan said.
Speaking at the European premiere of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” in London’s Leicester Square this week, he told the BBC: “I’m glad people are interested”.
