‘Force Awakens’ crosses $250M globally after record Friday

The long-awaited seventh installment of the Star Wars franchise, “The Force Awakens”, is now open worldwide.
It all comes to a head Thursday evening (Dec. 17), as director J.J. Abrams’ “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” lands in theaters.
An Australian couple got married on Thursday as they waited in line for the first USA public showings of “Star Wars; The Force Awakens”, while movie theaters around the country held marathons of the previous films in the franchise. And this time, to watch it as a young adult with another young adult friend of mine named Rhyse, I can’t help but feel so awestruck and happy.

Some three years after Disney bought George Lucas’ Lucasfilm Ltd for US$4 billion (RM17.2 billion), it is bringing its first “Star Wars” picture to cinemas this week in what has been billed as the movie release of the year.
Early Friday estimates also showed that the film is on target for a weekend of more than $200 million.
Global ticket sales through two days neared $130 million, Walt Disney Co said. The movie ticket service Fandango said it has already sold more tickets for “Force Awakens” than any movie over its entire theatrical run.
The new film was sold out for all but one regular showing at Forum 8 and Regal Columbia Stadium 14 on Thursday night. He was the first person to recognise me out and about.
The positive reviews will draw people outside of the rabid “Star Wars” fan base, said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at Rentrak.
In other words: When Doolittle says he’s a Star Wars nerd, he isn’t kidding around.
