Kasich is 16th entry into GOP race
An Ohio-based political pundit says with the importance of the Buckeye State in presidential elections, Kasich – despite his low poll numbers and difficulty raising money – can not be counted out.
“We should be growing so much faster than this, which is what creates the jobs”, Kasich said during a July 8 speech in Bluffton, South Carolina.
The decision to announce off-script is in keeping with his scrappy political style, but could prove risky in the round-the-clock news cycle of U.S. presidential campaigning.
But Kasich’s biggest coup in New Hampshire so far may have been his invitation to attend the 90th birthday party of Ruth Griffin, the grande dame of New Hampshire Republican politics.
Some political analysts say Kasich might appeal to Republican voters concerned about the country’s chronic government budget deficits.
At Tuesday’s campaign launch in Columbus, Ohio, Mr. Kasich is expected to stick to his less scripted approach, eschewing a teleprompter and speaking only from notes.
The Ohio governor speaks often of the importance of faith in his life – controversially using it as a justification for expanding Medicaid under President Obama’s health care law.
Rick Perry threw his hat into the ring for a second time on June 4.
It is worth mentioning that I have seen a lot of Kasich commercials on Boston-area TV. He also vowed his support for a balanced budget amendment to the US Constitution. His strategy includes drawing support from young people, African-Americans and Hispanics.
A former nine-term congressman, he is perhaps best known for brokering the 1997 balanced budget deal when chairman of the House Budget Committee. Since then he put in almost a decade as an investment executive and more than four years of time of strong-willed and frequently abrasive leadership as governor.
Kasich was also on the defensive, especially when Jonah Goldberg asked him about the expansion of Medicaid under the auspices of Obamacare. This, through allot cutting, privatization of parts of Ohio’s government and other, frequently business-style innovations.
Making his rollout more hard in the coming weeks, Kasich may be competing with the noise of Trump’s ongoing (and escalating) brawl with the Republican Party. It remains to be seen how Kasich’s risky habit of working without a script will play in the 24/7 hothouse of presidential politics. Later, Kasich said, he called her to talk about the book of Ruth.
“We’re going to compete in every state; I want to make that clear”, John Weaver, Kasich’s chief strategist, said Monday in an interview with the Northeast Ohio Media Group. That faceoff takes place next month in his home-state city of Cleveland and only the top 10 candidates in national polling will be invited.
The 63-year-old also served 18 years in Congress has won all twelve elections in which he has been on the ballot in Ohio.
Kasich, centre, greets patrons at a bar in a restaurant in Nashua, N.H. While Kasich’s policies may bespeak empathy, his tone frequently does not. However, his affiliated “New Day” group announced a combined fundraising haul of $11.5 million during a somewhat-abbreviated period starting from May 1, enough for the Kasich team to land in the middle of the pack. However, his world would be rocked when his parents were killed by a drunk driver in 1987 while they were pulling out of Burger King after a coffee run.
For John Kasich, launching a bid for the Oval Office boils down to three questions: Can he raise enough money to be competitive?
He was elected to the Ohio state Senate at the age of 26 in 1978, and was voted into the U.S. House in 1982.
