East Towne Mall in Madison evacuated, reports of active shooter
Investigators responded to a Madison, Wisconsin mall after there were reports of shots fired inside the building Saturday afternoon, according to the Associated Press.
A mall brawl led to gunfire at a Wisconsin mall Saturday, leaving one man injured and hundreds of shoppers panicked on one of the busiest shopping days of the year, police said.
WMTV tweeted the East Towne Mall was secured as of 3:39 p.m.
Police cleared the mall looking for the gunman, but he was not located. One pulled out a handgun and fired at least one shot, although DeSpain said it could have been multiple shots. The 19-year-old was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
“At no time was this an active shooter randomly shooting at people in the mall”, Despain added. “This is not an act of terrorism”.
Photos from the scene showed several police officers and a number of police vehicles outside the mall.
East Towne Mall is an 840,000-square-foot shopping center at the intersection of East Washington Avenue, Zeier Road and Lien Road. It remained closed as of 4:45 p.m. “No one was aware of what had happened, we had all heard a loud noise”.
