Muschamp ready for 2nd chance in SEC at South Carolina
Will Muschamp was introduced as the University of South Carolina’s 34th head football coach in a press conference held at Williams-Brice Stadium on Monday.
“Coach Spurrier raised the expectation level here and we’re going to continue pushing that”, said Muschamp, via AL.com.
Muschamp said ultimately, he’s reflected deeply on what happened at Florida and what he could do if another head coaching opportunity presented itself.
Robinson, who is regarded as one of the top recruiters in the country, has spent the past five seasons coaching defensive backs under Muschamp, first at Florida (2011-14), then at Auburn (2015).
Muschamp slowly worked his way through the coaching ranks as a graduate assistant at Auburn and through Division II schools before becoming the defensive coordinator for Nick Saban’s LSU Tigers in 2002.
It seems like there’s only one requirement for coaching at South Carolina: Did you coach at the University of Florida?
Muschamp returned to the Tigers program for just one season after signing a three-year, $5.1 million contract that allowed him to leave with no financial penalty after the regular season finale loss to No. 2 Alabama on November 28.
Sure, Will Muschamp was sacked from his first head coaching gig.
Muschamp’s Gator teams struggled offensively, however, for most of his head coaching career, finishing 97th in 2014, 113th in 2013, and 105th in 2012 in total offense. “I need to be Will Muschamp”.
“We look forward to having Bobby back in the state of South Carolina”, Muschamp said.
Coney claims that she doesn’t blame Auburn as a whole, just Muschamp, and that she and her son will wait to see who Auburn hires to replace Muschamp before making a decision. “On Auburn’s players “I hate that fact that those kids have to go through” another change at defensive coordinator”. The Gamecocks lost their last five games to finish 3-9. He said he will take his time in hiring his staff, but he is likely to bring in a strong offensive-minded coach, as Muschamp will likely run the defensive side of the ball.
Muschamp’s contract pays him $3 million in the first year, increases each year after by $100,000 and contains a variety of incentives, meaning he will be paid $3.4 million in its final year. “Buckle up your seat belt and here we go”.
Muschamp met with players earlier Monday and told them to put aside the struggling seasons and commit to the new program.
SC has the seal of approval from Steve Spurrier.
