Conor McGregor planning fights at 145 and 155 pounds
UFC superstar Conor McGregor has established himself as a legitimate box-office draw after another smashing event in his Las Vegas, but he has his sights set on much bigger goals. And by virtue of his dominant “blink and you’ll miss it” performance over Jose Aldo, UFC Featherweight Champion Conor McGregor has taken that spot. However, Aldo admits that he was caught, and it was not his fight, but vows to reclaim what is his.
All it took was 13 seconds and one fierce punch. I understand why, previously, other fighters wouldn’t do it. But look how many fights I’ve had in the previous year.
“It would have been nice if the contest had stretched out a little bit longer, just for all that it’s been through, but I still feel the same process would have happened”, he said. “I think we have to move on now and now I am waiting for a rematch and God willing next time I will be back much better trained and recover what is mine”. It was the fastest finish in a championship fight in UFC history, beating Rousey’s 14-second win over Cat Zingano at UFC 184.
In the message McGregor thanks his family and his training team for their effort and the UFC on being part of a historic week for the sport. “It’s a quick decision, and he was able to connect a good punch when I tried a combination”.
“I said his right hand would get him into trouble”, McGregor explained.
Aldo, to his credit, says an immediate rematch is something he would prefer, but it is still too soon to predict such things.
But if he wants a shot at the lightweight belt, he’ll have to fight UFC president Dana White for the right to keep the featherweight title at the same time. Either way, Aldo will be waiting several months for his rematch. “Not only me but my career speaks for itself”, Aldo said.
“It wasn’t this time, but for sure we will come out winners”.
Jones told Ariel Helwani, “Conor McGregor wrote to me, he said: ‘Hey champ, you know that once a champ, always a champ and I believe you’re going to come back from this strong.’ Just writing me words of encouragement”.
