One Shot at a Madison Mall
Madison police responded to East Towne Mall just before 3:00 PM Saturday afternoon for a report of shots fired.
Ricardo Franco, a Madison Police Department officer, said gunfire was reported inside the mall around 2:50 p.m. (2050 GMT).
Witnesses said several young men were involved in a disturbance in the middle of the mall. He was taken to a hospital with a non life-threatening wound.
A notice posted on the mall website says: “The mall is temporarily closed due to a safety concern”.
Police is looking for a suspect saying it was either not an act of terrorism or the person involved was not an active shooter. A worker at a mall kiosk was hit in the pant leg by a bullet ricochet but was not injured, DeSpain said.
Emergency services swarmed on East Towne mall after reports of a shot being fired. The Wisconsin State Journal also cites Lester Callahan, an employee at Gordman’s – one of the many stores located in the mall.
The mall has since been declared secure by police and reopened to the public. Within three or four seconds a gun went off, he said.
The incident began at approximately 3:40 p.m. local time. “We were told there was one man shot and were crowded into a back room”, Hadley wrote on Twitter.
