Derrick Henry Joined Dan Patrick, Talked Alabama vs. Auburn Rivalry
Alabama running back Derrick Henry captured the Heisman Trophy on Saturday night in New York City.
Clemson (Watson and defensive end Shaq Lawson), Stanford (McCaffrey and guard Joshua Garnett) and Ohio State (safety Vonn Bell and tackle Taylor Decker) each had two players on the first team.
Henry was raised by his grandmother Gladys Henry, who was unable to make the Heisman ceremony because she was hospitalized in Florida.
“Coming into Alabama from Florida, they all accepted me”, Henry said of his Alabama teammates during his Heisman speech.
Henry was dominant this season, taking 339 carries for 1,986 yards and 23 rushing touchdowns, breaking Herschel Walker’s single season rushing yards record in the SEC and tying the conference’s single season record for touchdowns, ESPN noted. I’ve just got that 2009 feeling y’all.
“God is everything. Always keep God first”. No other school has more than three. After going through his list of acknowledgments, Henry then turned his attention to the children listening to him. I just want to give you all advice. “Always pray; don’t be afraid to pray. I am a living testament, man”.
It’s nearly every kid’s dream to win the Heisman, but only a handful get to actually be included in finalist discussion, let alone get invited to NY for the presentation.
