Impact say no Chelsea approach for Drogba
“The rumour about Didier Drogba is unfounded”.
Metro.co.uk, citing Jeune Afrique, reports that Abramovich has contacted Drogba over a potential position in Chelsea’s new backroom team.
Drogba, a scoring sensation after his arrival in Montreal on July 27, is under contract to the Impact through the 2016 Major League Soccer season.
Hiddink will take charge until the end of the season but Chelsea are reportedly in talks with Atletico Madrid boss Simeone over taking charge at the end of the current campaign.
After winning a fourth league title with Drogba in 2014-15, the club went into a tailspin.
Chelsea, who won a Premier League and League Cup double last season, are now 16th place in the Premier League, two places and one point above the relegation zone after nine defeats in 16 games. A few hours after parting ways with José Mourinho, the discreet owner contacted Didier Drogba to come to London, according to someone close the player.
Jeune Afrique also reports that Drogba will join Chelsea to kick-start his post-player career path, starting with a smaller role and grow within the organization and build from there.
The Impact Montreal striker, who is on his off-season break, was in Abidjan when he received the phone call from the Russian oligarch. “To stay in shape, why not?”
