Tina Fey & Amy Poehler make triumphant return to SNL as Palin &
The two are busy promoting their new movie “Sisters,” which came out the same day as “Star Wars”. “They are exotic creatures to me”. It’s like a special language.
Tina Fey was a mean girl in real-life when she was in school. They seem to be enjoying not playing versions of themselves, but because of that Sisters might not be the type of hang out movie that fans of the comedians are expecting. “I’m a normal-looking person, but that’s not going to be where my bread is buttered.’ The desire to be amusing – because you are never actually quite sure if you really are amusing — is a coping mechanism, another way of ingratiating yourself”, she said. So it’s like everybody’s wish fulfilment in the film.
The only questions are how insane the party will get, how much the house will be trashed, if Kate will stick to being party mom while Maura becomes, uh, acquainted with James and, as in all movies about unauthorized blowouts, what the parents will say when or if they see the aftermath. Meyers gave Fey, Poehler, Ike Barinholtz, Maya Rudolph, Rachel Dratch and Paula Pell “Star Wars” action figures, prompting them to use the characters to convince viewers to go see “Sisters” this weekend instead of the cult favourite. “The more female characters there are on-screen, there’s less pressure on every character to represent everyone”.
For the first time in recent weeks, “Saturday Night Live” relied on its own cast and hosts to open a show, rather than surprise cameos. Years later, it stands as a shining gem from the Fey-Poehler days of SNL and is reason enough to watch on Saturday. “Then you realise you’re cursing more than any actual person would and you dial it back”. But to be honest, I don’t know anything about “Star Wars”. There were a lot of fun stunts and also we got to do a lot of stuff where we were goofing around and finishing each other’s sentences. I don’t care about it!
Fey is especially fantastic, and it’s a treat to see her as such a foul-mouthed mess after years of Liz Lemon (though she does pull out a “Shut it down” as a wink to the audience).
