At least one hurt in Madision mall shooting
A 19-year-old man who was part of the initial dispute was struck.
MADISON, Wis. (AP) – Gunfire erupted during a dispute inside a large Wisconsin mall Saturday, leaving one man wounded in the leg and sending thousands of people scrambling for cover on one of the busiest shopping days before Christmas.
Police were said to be running through the shopping center with guns as customers were told to evacuate.
Police said 10 people became involved in a fight.
Shots were fired at a Madison, Wisconsin, mall on Saturday afternoon, with at least one person reported injured. He was transported to a hospital with a non life-threatening wound. The FBI is investigating the case as an act of terrorism.
A message on the shopping center’s website said the mall was “temporarily closed due to a safety concern”, but the mall was reopened at about 6:30 p.m. (7:30 p.m. ET).
Dane County Communications confirms to 27 News that shots were fired at the mall but didn’t have any other details to release at this time.
No additional information was available at this time.
East Towne Mall is 840,000 square feet with 110 retailers, according to its website.
