Stores Get Ready for Last Minute Christmas Shoppers
But with just days to go before Christmas, concerns about deliveries mean more people will now hit the high street, where the majority of sales are still made.
With just six days left until Christmas, the holiday shopping stress is taking a toll on some still working to get gifts – and they’re turning to a personal shopper to get some assistance.
Shoppers can expect discounts – some as much as 50 percent or more.
Food shopping has also been delayed as many people will take time off after this weekend.
“The retailers that participate in Super Saturday are numerous same that boast everyone’s favorite Black Friday discounts”, says Courtney Jespersen of NerdWallet.com, an online resource providing information, insight and consumer-driven advice about personal finance.
“Customers will find a deep selection of exceptional promotions and savings offers the week leading up to Christmas, including Early Bird deals available from 6 a.m.to 1 p.m. on Super Saturday, Dec. 19 in stores and online”, Kohl’s reported.
Ian Kirkpatrick, manager of the Quadrant, said: “Saturday was busy as expected with nearly 100,000 shoppers in the centre and some brisk trading”. Online sales on Black Friday increased 21.5% and mobile traffic accounted for more than 57% of all online traffic, up 15.2% from Black Friday 2014, according to IBM Watson Trend. “It should be the second-busiest shopping day of the year after the 23rd”, when people are buying last minute gifts and loading up on groceries.
“It’s an important part of both the holiday season and the total year”, said Bill Martin, founder of ShopperTrak, told the LA Times.
Martin says she’s relieved she finished shopping last weekend. We asked several shoppers Friday night, December 18, 2015, about the deals they were seeing.
For example, Toys R Us store clerks will have a grueling schedule the following days, given that starting from Saturday and ending on Tuesday locations will begin their activity at 6 a.m., remaining in operation until 2 a.m.
According to his survey, 52% of consumers said there was nothing new in stores this season to tempt them. “You don’t have to wait too long in line, so it’s not too bad”, said Telly Cantu, shopper.
