Dallas Cowboys player pops his dislocated knee back into place
The Jets’ fourth straight win saw them improve to 9-5.
JETS claimed a 19-16 victory over the Dallas Cowboys last night to keep up their play-off push.
The Cowboys had to turn to Kellen Moore at quarterback less than five minutes into the second quarter after a horrid start by Matt Cassel, who threw an egregious interception and was also sacked for a 19-yard loss.
Desperate to give talented Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant a fighting chance against the Jets, Dallas turned to rookie quarterback Kellen Moore. Because the Cowboys are so bad on offense, the Jets trailed only 10-9 at the half.
TIED, AND UNTIED: Dallas’ Dan Bailey tied it at 16 on a 50-yard field goal that caromed through off the right upright with 1:55 remaining.
New York Jets’ Kenbrell Thompkins (10) celebrates with Eric Decker (87) after Decker’s catch for a touchdown against the Dallas Cowboys in the second half of an NFL football game, Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015, in Arlington, Texas.
-K Randy Bullock made the game-winning field goal with 36 seconds left after missing an extra point (his third this season) and field goal earlier in the game.
Todd Bowles’ team hasn’t reached that level yet, but the Jets are moving in the right direction, based on how they’ve played during this four-game winning streak.
Mercifully, the 4-10 Cowboys were finally eliminated from playoff contention. You’ve got to live with that.
A year removed from the 4-12 Rex Ryan-John Idzik mess, the Jets are 9-5, have won four in a row for the first time since 2010 and are in position to make the playoffs for the first time in years. The Jets’ playoff fate is tied to the fortunes of the Chiefs, Steelers and Broncos, but there’s a vibe right now that they’ll handle all that’s under their control with two games left. On the drive, Fitzpatrick connected on throws of 14 yards (to Brandon Marshall), 13 yards (Decker), 20 yards (Marshall) and 24 yards (Quincy Enunwa).
A swarming Cowboys defense dominated the Jets on the ground, holding Chris Ivory to just 37 yards on 13 carries, and had Fitzpatrick on the run all night long. Facing a second-and-goal from the six, Moore locked in on Bryant but was intercepted by safety Calvin Pryor in the back of the end zone. “He’s a competitor. He goes out, and the guys believe in him”.
But instead of sailing out of bounds, the ball landed in the hands of Jets All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis. As if the interception itself wasn’t a big enough blow to the Cowboy quarterback’s ego, Cassel also managed to get called for intentional grounding on the play. “They’re playing to win the game and they’re executing”. We’ll see what happens.
The Jets and their league-leading defense against the run had allowed a total of 110 rushing yards in their previous three games.
Matt Cassel started his seventh game as the Cowboys quarterback Saturday night. “It was the kind of game we were losing in the first half of the year or the middle of the season that we’re starting to win now, so I’m happy about that”. So Dallas dominating the Jets offensive line was not a complete surprise. It’s only near-perfect because Fitzpatrick almost fumbled the ball away on a third-and-1 while diving for the first down on a no-huddle play.
