Starz Receives Six Golden Globe Award Nominations
The Golden Globes nominations were announced Thursday morning and – in what’s becoming the norm this awards season – only confused the race. Each received four nominations.
Indeed, one would argue that the show’s other stand-out actresses, like Sarah Paulson and Lily Rabe, have been snubbed by virtue of the nom; Paulson has never seen a Golden Globe nod for her five performances on AHS, nor has Rabe.
The inclusion of The Martian in the comedy/musical division was a source of controversy to start with.
The movie may have been met with critical acclaim, but the film was overlooked in the Best Motion Picture Drama category.
Some Globe nominees woke to find themselves with more than they expected.
Next, where do we put Alicia Vikander and Rooney Mara? However it did pick up nominations at the British Independent Film Awards and Satellite Awards.
Gaga has shared her thoughts about the nomination in a statement obtained by The Wrap, saying: “Thank you to the HFPA for this nomination, and to the talented cast, crew, and creators of ‘American Horror Story'”. It’s Louis-Dreyfus’s fourth nomination for the comedy, and the seventh in her career. But competition is always stiffer among dramas than comedies, especially since none of the other major awards groups split comedy films into their own category. While the nomination reveals the HFPA’s soft spot for aging icons, it also says a lot about the best-actor field this season, which is not almost as strong as in previous years. She was previously nominated for her roles in “Winter’s Bone”, “American Hustle” and “Silver Linings Playbook”.
Rami Malek, 34, earned a best actor nod for playing a cybersecurity expert with social anxiety on cable network USA’s best drama series nominee Mr. Robot.
There were no nominations this year for such early-touted awards-hopeful films as “Black Mass”, “Macbeth” (Fassbender fans in the HFPA either preferred his “Steve Jobs” performance or haven’t seen his Shakespeare adaptation yet), or “Sicario” (even though it’s one of the year’s biggest indie hits).
“My mom and my manager @wanaynay are so emotional about our Best Actress Golden Globe Nomination and so happy for Ryan Murphy [Co-creator of “American Horror Story”] and the whole gang for HOTEL’s nomination for Best TV Series!”
Leonardo DiCaprio – Nominee for Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama “The Revenant”: “Thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association”.
But if Oscar forecasters are looking to sift through Globe tea leaves, there appear to be few sure things.
Though younger stars like DiCaprio and Lawrence are the leading acting contenders, a number of esteemed veterans joined the nominations, too. She won the best actress in a supporting role Golden Globe for “Seinfeld” in 1994. But the surprise leader of the pack is the summer action blockbuster Mad Max: Fury Road.
The comedies have performed better at the box office, though the Academy Awards have been generally unfriendly toward the genre. But it failed to join the dramatic best picture nominees, which, along with “Carol” and “The Revenant”, are: “Mad Max: Fury Road”, “Room” and “Spotlight“.
– Picture, Musical or Comedy: “The Big Short“, “Joy”, “The Martian”, “Spy“, “Trainwreck”.
Some of the actual best actresses: Brie Larson (“Room“) and Saoirse Ronan (“Brooklyn”) earn Best Actress, Drama nods.
– Actor, Musical or Comedy: Christian Bale, “The Big Short”; Steve Carell, “The Big Short”; Matt Damon, “The Martian”; Al Pacino, “Danny Collins”; Mark Ruffalo, “Infinitely Polar Bear”. Elba was nominated for a Golden Globe award for best supporting actor for his role within the film on Thurs.
This time the film landed a “Best Picture- Drama” and “Best Director” nomination for George Miller.
Financial crisis film “The Big Short”, revenge thriller “The Revenant” and biopic “Steve Jobs” followed close behind with four nominations each for the Globes, which will be handed out in Beverly Hills on January 10.
