Tibbs Drive-in Theatre to show ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’
For three years, since the announcement that Disney had purchased Lucasfilm and was planning a return to “a galaxy far, far away”, fans like me have been discussing, dreaming, imagining and hoping about what we eventually learned would be called “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”. The first wave hit in September but there will be more toys released after “The Force Awakens” because they are tied to some of the big surprises in the movie. In the table below I’ve shown what the IMAX box office would be if the movie generates $2 billion or $4 billion (a stretch goal) in total box office and averages 12.7% at IMAX.
The most anticipated movie of the year (and perhaps of all time) opens on Friday December 18.
Posters for the The Force Awakens are plastered all about town, with four alone on the Boulevard. “But it’s mostly about wanting to protect the experience for the people who might go see the movie”.
Then there’s Star Wars’ first-ever female “baddie”, Captain Phasma, played by 191cm Gwendoline Christie of Game of Thrones fame (Brynne of Tarth), who is again decked out in shining armour – this time a remodelled storm trooper outfit.
Bryant, my soon-to-be 14 year old, gained an affinity for the Star Wars movies even before seeing any of them.
“There is something absolutely visceral in many people’s lives that attaches them to these films”, he said.
“I think what’s important is that you are faithful to the original character, and that the development of him proceeds without violating what you know about him”, Ford added. They are waiting in line to get the best seats for a December 17 special screening of The Force Awakens.
“Remember the prequels”, I hear in my head (and it’s Yoda’s voice I hear, so maybe that should read “the prequels, you must remember”).
A number of sponsors have come on board to help with the nuptials: Dunkin’ Donuts will provide the campers with donuts on the morning of the wedding, while Baskin-Robbins has agreed to provide the happy couple with a Star Wars-themed wedding cake.
The cinema’s bosses have allowed some hardcore Star Wars aficionados, many in costume, a spot on the famous hands and footprints where many stars, including Harrison Ford, have made their mark.
Fans compete in the ultimate marathon watch-off.
However, if you are trying to see the film on opening weekend, you may want to buy online.
