Cruz Says He’d Tap Jeff Sessions for His Cabinet

Central to the Cruz campaign’s new offensive Friday was Rubio’s Senate attendance record, which has already fallen in the crosshairs of GOP opponents such as former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush. ‘And we had the biggest vote of the whole year, voting on a trillion dollars worth of spending and he didn’t show up’.
“Cruz aides, some using the hash tag “#MarcoNoShow”, pounced on Rubio’s absence from the vote – he was stumping in Iowa at the time – also needling him over his relatively slow schedule on the campaign trail.
The media have seized on the disagreement and pressed Cruz on the issue in numerous interviews over the past week, but Senator Sessions, whose credibility on the immigration issue is unquestioned among the conservative base, has repeatedly come to Cruz’s defense.

The bill in question would have prevented undocumented migrants from obtaining citizenship if they entered the country legally, but they would have been permitted to stay, according to the Cruz amendment, not citizens but legal residents. The grilling lasted for almost 10 minutes with Van Susteren digging to get to the bottom of the controversy. It has won the endorsements of two influential figures in conservative circles, Ken Cuccinelli and James Dobson, with more high-profile endorsements expected in the coming weeks. The proposal would have replaced it with one that offered those immigrants legal status within the United States.
During a weekend campaign stop in south Alabama, Republican senator and presidential hopeful Ted Cruz said he had “three words” for people questioning whether the southern border can be secured: “Secretary Jeff Sessions”.
“He made it clear multiple occasions that he was against citizenship but he was open to legalization”, Rubio said. “That just about kills Marco Rubio in Alabama”.
