Prince Mary’s son rescued from risky rip
The lifeguard responsible, named as Nick Malcolm, reportedly plucked the Prince, 10, from the unsafe current and returned him to shore using a rescue board.
The young prince and his three younger siblings are holidaying in Australia with their mother, Crown Princess Mary, who is a native Tasmanian.
Witnesses told how Malcolm paddled out into the Pacific Ocean and brought the young prince, grandson to Queen Margrethe II and Prince Consort Henrik, back to his distressed parents, who are holidaying in Australia.
“We got him before it got too serious, but he wouldn’t have come back in”.
Princess Mary hadn’t forgotten the rules of the Australian beach – swimming in the red and yellow flags – but it seems a rogue rip entered within the zone.
“He’s kept it pretty quiet, I’m sure we’ll give him plenty of stick now we know”, said fellow lifeguard Shane Pierce.
It is not the first time Mr Malcolm has attracted attention for his life-saving efforts.
Footage of the dramatic incident where Malcolm performed chest compressions on the man was filmed by an Australian television network.
The Danish royals including their four children Prince Christian, ten, Princess Isabella, eight, and Princess Josephine and Prince Vincent, both four, have been enjoying an Aussie summer break. It is believed that the family will return to her hometown of Hobart in Tasmania for Christmas week.
