NWA Announced As 2016 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Inductee
More than 800 voters of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation selected the inductees.
The individual members being inducted are DJ Yella, Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, Ice Cube and MC Ren.
Miller got his start in the late 1960s, playing with the Steve Miller Blues Band at San Francisco venues such as the Avalon, Fillmore, California Hall, Straight Theater, Kezar Pavilion, Carousel Ballroom and elsewhere, before shortening the group’s name and moving on to the platinum pop hits that would conquer karaoke bars around the world. As the Rock Hall said in their press release, they have stayed consistent over their nearly forty years “Remaining interesting, sometimes hilarious, in that way is also pretty much unparalleled – and indispensable to understanding them”.
Two other classic rock juggernauts, Deep Purple and Steve Miller, have been eligible for the Rock Hall for years and are finally getting their dues in the class of 2016. The 31st annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony is set for April 8 at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., which marks the second time the venue will host the event.
More than 20 years after their heyday, N.W.A.is having a history-making year.
Deep Purple rocker Ian Paice, who recently admitted he feared his band would be left out of the 2016 inductions because there are so many members, concludes, “I knew it would probably happen one day”. So many people were opinionated about N.W.A. I think everyone now at this point, no matter how you feel about us, understands what the group actually did and what it means to modern music. Cheap Trick is finishing their label debut album, titled Bang Zoom Crazy…
The band still tours but without 70-year-old guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, who parted in 1993 and has regularly performed in Singapore since 2000. Tickets to attend the ceremony can be purchased beginning in February, according to Billboard.
Reacting to the news of the group’s impending induction, bassist Tom Petersson says in a statement, “We can’t thank the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame enough for honoring Cheap Trick”. “If I was running the Hall of Fame, I wouldn’t have known how to do it…But it looks like we’re in and I’m very pleased”.
