Google releases most popular search terms of 2015
In 2015, Google counted more than 897 million searches about Paris, which suffered two major terrorist attacks: the massacre at the offices of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in January and the November 13 shootings at several locations, including the Bataclan concert hall.
But while we are often reminded about some of the heartbreaking or salacious headlines over the past 12 months, Google is proving what Internet users searched the most with their annual “year in search” list for 2015.
In the United States, Odom topped the list followed by “Jurassic World”, “American Sniper”, Caitlyn Jenner, and Ronda Rousey. And while the highlights are marked by tragedy, Google has opted to search for the good.
The most searched term in Australia in December was of course Star Wars, with the latest installment of the legendary franchise hitting cinemas today.
Many searchers wanted to know how to use the new Snapchat update, while others were asking Google, “What is Charlie Charlie?”
The most searched topic worldwide during the year was former National Basketball Association player Lamar Odom, who was placed in a coma in October, while in Australia Netflix – which launched this year – took the crown with Odom coming in third behind it and the Rugby World Cup in which Australia finished as runner-up to New Zealand.
