Randy Bullock, Jets boot Cowboys from playoff picture
With just two games left and nothing of effect to play for, the situation has revived rumors that the team may look to Tim Tebow to help end out the season.
“We’re on our way to becoming one of those types of teams if we can keep it up”. They hold a half-game lead over Kansas City and Pittsburgh in the AFC Wild Card race, with both the Chiefs and Steelers scheduled to play on Sunday. Jets kicker Randy Bullock split the uprights with 41 seconds remaining, after missing a field goal earlier in the game, to put Gang Green ahead for good.
“Kind of had tough sledding for a while”, said Fitzpatrick, who faces AFC East-leading New England and Tom Brady next week. A series of runs set up Bullock’s game-deciding kick. Fitzpatrick finished with 299 yards 1 touchdown and 1 interception.
The Jets have struggled for most of the season in trying to find a third option at wide receiver beyond stars Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker. But the Jets finally scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter (another Fitzpatrick-Decker production) and all the Cowboys could do was tie the game.
“He came back and made the game-winner and that says a lot about the guy”, Bowles said. The loss officially eliminated Dallas (4-10) from postseason contention. With home field advantage, the Jets hope to knock the Patriots down a few notches and get the win.
It’s been an all too regular occurrence for the Cowboys this season with Cassel under center.
“We’ll go back, and we’ll evaluate the tape, and we’ll make the determinations and really throw out a roster as to who we want to play and how we want to play it”, Garrett said. “But that doesn’t diminish the work everyone has put in”.
It took NFL Coaches almost 4 full season to discover that Boise State legend and NCAA all-time winningest Quarterback Kellen Moore can actually play in the NFL.
Moore was 15 of 25 for 158 yards, but was picked off three times. His final interception sealed the Jets’ victory.
“He has a good feel”, Bowles said of Fitzpatrick. “At the end of the day we didn’t do enough good things to win, but we did have some good things happen out there”. Garrett can play coy if he likes, but it would be surprising if Moore did not start Week 16.
-RB Chris Ivory came into the game needing 86 rushing yards to reach 1,000 for the season.
He threw his first NFL TD pass by hitting Dez Bryant on a 10-yard catch-and-run as the Cowboys took a 10-9 half-time lead. They didn’t panic when the Cowboys led 13-9 entering the fourth quarter.
Fitzpatrick gave it right back. The other two were ugly, though, as was Matt Cassel’s interception and sack. When the fourth quarter began, while the Jets trailed the Cowboys 13-9, the game was hardly over.
After faking a throw and stumbling when he tried to change directions, Cassel threw blindly to a spot where Darrelle Revis was by himself for an easy interception.
The turnover did not end up costing the Cowboys. The speed of the Dallas defensive line gave the Jets fits. The Jets didn’t stall on their next march. He’d also agree that Saturday night’s performance won’t have much bearing on whether they do that because every week in the National Football League tells its own story and that a happy ending is a must even if the road to the final chapter is a slog.
