Israeli soldiers shoot dead Palestinian man in West Bank
She pointed out that since the recent surge in terror attacks began in October, 117 Palestinian Arabs have died – most of whom were killed by security forces while perpetuating stabbing, ramming, or shooting attacks against Israelis.
In a second incident elsewhere in the camp, paramilitary Border Police shot dead the driver of another vehicle who tried to ram them, a police spokeswoman said.
The Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed the deaths of Ahmad Jahajha, 21, and Hekmat Hamdan, 29.
The Israeli military said three soldiers were wounded, including one seriously.
“That’s not surprising because Abu Mazen is continuing constantly to stir things up with false propaganda about Al-Aqsa, false propaganda about executions and by rejecting any genuine attempt at coming to negotiations”, Netanyahu also said, referring to the Palestinian Authority’s president, Mahmoud Abbas.
Since Oct. 1, Israeli forces have killed 113 Palestinians, 67 of whom Israel says were assailants.
At the United Nations in NY, U.S. Ambassador Samantha Power, told reporters that envoys of the so-called Quartet of Mideast mediators are now in the region for “substantive meetings” with both Israeli and Palestinian leaders.
Qalandiya camp was established in 1949 in the wake of the creation of Israel and has grown into a densely populated town with 11,000 registered refugees.
Palestinian medical sources said four people were taken to hospital with gunshot wounds after a clash that erupted during the raid, which the army said was intended “to arrest suspects and confiscate weapons”. Almost 20 Israelis have also been killed in the clashes.
Global condemnation of Israel’s actions in occupied territory has intensified and foreign powers have expressed concern over what they say is excessive use of force.
Pouilly warned that although global attention appeared to be waning, “the level of killings, injuries and arrests has continued, with an average of one person dying every day”.
