5 reasons Jets escaped game at Dallas Cowboys with 19-16 win
“There’s going to be adversity throughout the game and that was a great sign for us to show that the belief is always there”.
We didn’t do enough good things to win, but we did have some good things happen out there. They hold a half-game lead over Kansas City and Pittsburgh in the AFC Wild Card race, with both the Chiefs and Steelers scheduled to play on Sunday.
“He came back and made the game-winner and that says a lot about the guy”, Bowles said.
The Jets escaped a rough one in Dallas last night, scraping a 19-16 victory over the Cowboys.
I mean… how is it possible that nobody noticed this and got him off the field?
Marshall caught four balls for 74 yards in the victory.
“We’ll go back, and we’ll evaluate the tape, and we’ll make the determinations and really throw out a roster as to who we want to play and how we want to play it”, Garrett told reporters (via ESPN.com). The loss eliminated the Cowboys from playoff contention, so games against the Bills next week and the Redskins to finish the season ostensibly are for prime for player evaluation.
But the fact is this: Their nine wins have come against teams with a combined record of 43-75.
It’s been an all too regular occurrence for the Cowboys this season with Cassel under center.
“We all start with aspirations”, said Cowboys coach Jason Garrett. “That doesn’t diminish the work we put in, the competitive nature of our football team and the fight that everyone demonstrated”.
Dallas made it a game behind backup quarterback Kellen Moore, who saw his first live game action since starring at Boise State.
Ryan Fitzpatrick enjoyed a strong outing with 299 yards and a touchdown, while Kellen Moore had replaced the struggling Matt Cassel earlier for the Cowboys.
“It’s mental toughness”, Bowles said.
Garrett is notoriously reluctant to publicly commit to anything if he doesn’t have to, but this little bit of subterfuge seems a little silly.
Dallas running back Darren McFadden ran for 100 yards against the league’s top rushing defense. Luckily for the team, the defense kept the Jets in the game.
The last chance for the Cowboys ended on Moore’s third interception when his desperation heave for Dez Bryant went over the outstretched arm of the receiver and was caught by Marcus Williams. Ryan Fitzpatrick’s third-quarter pick set up a Dallas field goal. But it was Cassel’s ineptitude more than Revis’ talent that led to a first half interception (and an intentional grounding penalty). The red-zone turnover hurt us. Randy Bullock’s PAT was no good, but NY led 6-3. The first was an interception when he stumbled and threw blindly to a spot where Darrelle Revis was all alone. The offense found better footing on a pair of fourth quarter scoring drives, however, and Bullock’s aim was true on his final kick in a 19-16 win.
The Jets did not stall on their next march. Bilal Powell found no resistance on a 12-yard TD run.
