Beckham, Norman talk about behavior during Panthers-Giants
The Giants were seeking to save their season.
Green Bay (10-4) clinched a spot in the postseason in the first quarter when the New York Giants lost to Carolina.
Odell Beckham Jr. and Josh Norman we’re the main event as Panthers and Giants literally battled it out at Metlife Stadium Sunday afternoon.
Coughlin just can’t catch a break this season, starting with the final two minutes of the season opener in Dallas when Manning mismanaged the clock, leaving time for Tony Romo to throw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Jason Witten with seven seconds remaining.
Giants coach Tom Coughlin said he considered sitting Beckham for some plays, but didn’t. “He got more yardage than I thought he would have”.
Vikings running back Adrian Peterson sprained his ankle during the 38-17 win over the Bears, avoiding serious injury after an awkward tackle by Bears defensive end Pernell McPhee. “We didn’t do enough”.
When told it was three, he paused, trying to find the right words.
Norman said Beckham should have been ejected right then. “Anyone who has a passion for football is going to go as hard as they can”, he added.
First, as I noted Sunday, the National Football League made fighting and other extracurricular activity a point of emphasis for 2015.
Despite falling into a deep hole, the Giants gave themselves a chance to win through a variety of contributions.
The Seahawks, runners-up in the Super Bowl last season, romped to a 30-13 win over the Cleveland Browns with quarterback Russell Wilson throwing for 249 yards and three touchdowns as Seattle reached the post-season for a fourth consecutive year. “It wasn’t easy out there”.
“If you’re going to be out here and you’re going to dance around and prance around like you are a ballerina, that goes to show you … what kind of player he is”, Norman said.
A debate has emerged on whether this Cardinals team, which is one win from the franchise’s first 12-victory season, is the best in team history. The two of them got into a couple of scuffles.
Texans 16, Colts 10: INDIANAPOLIS – Brandon Weeden replaced injured quarterback T.J. Yates late in the first half and threw a go-ahead 8-yard TD pass to Jaelen Strong with 10:36 to play as Houston won at Indianapolis.
All OBJ had to do was catch the damn ball to give the Giants a touchdown and an early lead on undefeated Carolina.
PITTSBURGH – Ben Roethlisberger threw for 380 yards and three touchdowns – including a game-winning 23-yard strike to Antonio Brown with 3:24 remaining – as Pittsburgh rallied from a 17-point deficit to beat Denver.
Finally, there were the penalties.
Three times, a frustrated Beckham was penalized for roughness.
At one stage, the Panthers had amassed a huge 35-7 lead until a furious comeback from Giants brought the game back to life. “I’m a competitor. We are always going to go at it”, he said. “You want me to take him out of the game?” he asked, incredulously. He was on his way to the end zone on that first play, as well. He could have taken him out for a play or two and talked briefly with him. “Whatever we have to discuss, we will discuss in private”. He had to learn.
“He’s got to learn at some point how to deal with some things on the field”, Coughlin said.
“I know I quick-jammed the mess out of him, his body locked, he fell to the ground”, Norman said to Braziller. “He made some mistakes today, but I’m hoping he’ll recognize that and get over it”.
Norman later called for action against Beckham. We never doubted ourselves. They drove from their 26-yard line to the Giants 25-yard line in the final 1:40 to win on Graham Gano’s 43-yard field goal as time expired. “It is unfortunate and kind of in the way of our season”. But the sting of this loss will linger.
Beckham helped get the Panthers riled, got them involved, and by the third quarter and into the fourth quarter they were “losing their composure”, Rivera said. “That’s what we’ll do”.
