Jimmy Carter’s Grandson Dies
Jeremy Carter, the 28-year-old grandson of former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, died suddenly Sunday morning.
“(President Carter) was shaken”, Maranatha Baptist Church Rev. Jeremy Shoulta told CNN. Jeremy was one of 11 grandchildren of Carter and his wife Rosalynn. A week earlier, Jimmy Carter announced about his recovery from cancer following a MRI clearance.
The coroner has not determined a cause of death.
Carter’s decision to attend church only hours after his grandson’s death did not come as a shock to the Maranatha congregation.
“I’m not surprised”, Maranatha member Jan Williams said. “That’s the kind of Christian he (Jimmy) is”.
During his Sunday school class, Shoulta said Carter completed his lesson, but “it was apparent to everyone there that this was weighing on him very heavily”.
According to CNN, the minister said Carter was rushed to a hospital after the family tried CPR. The past few months have been a very emotional time for this church.
During his sermon, Shoulta urged congregants to pray for the Carter family.
Carter said he was going to scale back on humanitarian work and other demands, though he recently said he is cancer-free. 6, 2015, that no cancer was detected in his latest scan. As per NBC News, the Carter Center released a statement in his behalf, saying, “I will continue to receive regular 3-week immunotherapy treatments of pembrolizumab”.
