Amy Poehler & Kate McKinnon Play Dueling Hillary Clintons on
Paying tribute to the fellow women who help them get through the day as comedic superstars, Fey & Poehler, alongside “SNL” cast member Aidy Bryant thank their nannies, assistants, and the good samaritans who return their wallets unscathed. Our vote goes to the game show spoof titled, “Meet Your Second Wife”.
The pair sent up Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood” video with their own “Dope Squad” clip. Also, that bit about actually shooting a slow-motion post-apocalyptic walk is great. Too bad they weren’t delivering every “Update” joke. Last night’s ratings were topped for the season only by the ratings from November 7 when Donald Trump hosted.
So, who makes up the Fey (aka Powderkeg) and Poehler (aka Shortfuse) posse? She even brought Tina Fey’s Sarah Palin with her. While the epic Poehler/Fey 2008 election cycle will live on as classic SNL political satire, McKinnon has proven herself worthy of Clinton’s pantsuits and sensible shoes. “It’s not a total disaster-thanks largely to Fey and Poehler’s note-perfect reaction shots-but it clearly needed another pass in the writers” room. They also sang a Christmas song, “Merry Christmas baby”, to show how much they love this holiday.
Upon congratulating Poehler on her first Golden Globe nomination, Fey sarcastically said: “I just want to say congratulations again to my friend Amy Poehler”. Sure. But while Tina and Amy semi-apologised for the dig, that definitely didn’t stop them going IN on this parody. And then one very special surprise guest popped in for a croon: Paul McCartney!
Poehler’s 2008 version of the then-senator and presidential candidate Clinton visited Kate McKinnon, the resident impersonator for Clinton in 2015, with a warning.
Soon, Fey’s Palin appears, to thunderous applause. “I landed in the bedroom of a lesbian couple”, she said. And it all culminated in a Clinton-Palin-Clinton dance party, because why not?
