Martin Shkreli says he will beat ‘baseless’ charges
Shkreli tweeted Saturday: “I am confident I will prevail”. Shkreli is also chief executive of KaloBios Pharmaceuticals, which has not commented on his arrest.
Turing also said it was sending a similarly worded letter to doctors stressing that it will continue to offer financial assistance to eligible patients needing Daraprim who are either uninsured or have commercial insurance. “And it shouldn’t be the AIDS and cancer patients”. Undeterred, he launched himself in 2011 into the pharmaceuticals business as CEO of Retrophin, which ousted him past year. Oh no. He instead has been charged with securities fraud.
Bailed ex-pharmaceutical company CEO Martin Shkreli says fraud allegations against him are baseless.
Other posts mocked Shkreli for his infamous price-gouging and his boasts about buying a one-of-a-kind Wu-Tang Clan album for $2 million.
A series of seven tweets at midday EST on Sunday from Shkreli’s account included: “Anyone want free money? Willing to donate hundreds of thousands to charities before I go to prison …”
As for the wave of hate he gets online, Shkreli said he doesn’t mind.
Says the spokesman, Craig Stevens, “It is no coincidence that these charges, the result of investigations which have been languishing for considerable time, have been filed at the same time of Shkreli’s high-profile, controversial and yet unrelated activities”.
Wearing a purple PBS T-shirt and plaid pajama bottoms, Shkreli, 32, responded to commenters on the stream.
According to Turing representatives, Shkreli will be replaced in the interim by Ronald Tilles, who had previously served as chairman of the firm’s board of directors since its late-2014 launch.
In the company’s statement, Turing made no mention of why Shkreli resigned or of his pending charges.
